Outline
The aged simulation set is a teaching material intended to demonstrate the inconveniences felt by the aged due to musculoskeletal, visual and auditory aging. This set is the most suitable for medical practice, nursing and welfare training. Inconveniences to the aged due to the changes in bones, muscles, sight and hearing can be experienced with this simulation set. This simulation set is suitable for the field of medical and welfare education.
Devices
- Goggles (1)
These goggles make the trainee experience the changes in visual function, such as the loss of the peripheral vision and deteriorated sight due to cataracts. Material: vinyl chloride.
- Ear plugs (50 pairs)
The ear plugs block high frequency sounds, which allows the trainee to experience presbyacusis. Material: expanded polymer
- Back protector (1)
This protector restricts the posture, forcing of the trainee to adopt a bent position specific to aging. Material: 100 % cotton and aluminum
- Restrictors for fingers (1 pair for both hands).
These restrictors limit the movement of the finger joints, which makes the trainee clumsy. Material : 100 % cotton and ABS.
- Restrictors for the elbows (1 pair for both elbows)
These restrictors restrict the motion of the elbow joints to make the trainee experience sluggish arms. Material: 100 % cotton and ABS.
- Gloves (10 pairs)
These gloves make the trainee feel loss of the sense of touch in the hands and fingers. Material : 100 % cotton .
- Weights for the wrists: 500g
These weights are loaded on the wrists to make the trainee experience a simulated loss of arm muscle. Material: iron particles.
- Walking stick (foldable) (1 pc)
This stick is intended to make the trainee experience how a physically handicapped person supports himself with a walking stick. Material: aluminum
- Knee Restrictor s (1 pair for both knees)
These restrictors restrict the motion of the knees to allow the trainee to experience sluggish legs. Material: cotton and ABS.
- Weights for the ankles: 1000 g (1 pair for both ankles)
These weights are loaded on the ankles to allow the trainee to experience simulated loss of muscle. Material: iron particles
Characteristics
- The simulator is based on common Japanese physique.
- Adjusting the Velcro tape can enable the simulation of other physiques.
- It is hard for the trainee to move the joints when wearing knee and elbow restrictors. The trainee can also experience reduced muscle power with wrist and ankle weights attached, and a reduced sense of touch by wearing the gloves.
- A stooped posture can be experienced by wearing the back protector.
- Loss of peripheral vision and changes in visual function due to cataracts can be experienced by wearing the goggles.
- Reduction in the reception of high frequency sounds can be experienced by wearing the ear plugs.
Specifications
Range of wear:
This simulation set has been sized for standard females 155 cm to 165 cm in height. However, it can be adjusted for men of up to 180 cm in height. Total weight: 6.4 kg
Caution
Before using these devices, the attached usage instructions should be carefully read.
Experienc ing the daily life of the aged.
- The visual field is narrowed, and letters and colors are difficult to be recognized.
- Difficulty in hearing sound
- Difficulty in bending the joints
- Difficulty in going up and down the stairs
- Difficulty in standing up and sitting in a chair, and in using the bathroom

Elder Goggles
LM-0603E (with carrying case)

- Basic structure, function and material
Goggles for experiencing the change in vision due to cataracts in the aged (older than about 80 years). The formation of these cataracts result s in turbidity in the crystalline lens, causing light to scatter and obscuring images. Due to the influence of ultraviolet rays, the crystalline lens denatures, short wavelength light is absorbed, and yellowing of visual sense and blackening of blue and green colors occurs. Elder Goggles share the characteristics of amber (orange) and haze (cloudy) lenses , and are devised so that the transmission of light approximates that of the aged. Changes in sight (blackening of blue and green colors and obscuration of vision) due to cataracts in the aged can also be experienced.
- Comparison of conventional goggles and Elder Goggles
With conventional goggles trainees can experience constriction of the visual field, but blackening of blue and green colors, progressive yellowing, and cloudiness can only be experienced with Elder Goggles. The constriction of the visual field is not simulated due to concerns for the safety of trainees.
