EMISTAT™ is an absorbable local hemostat prepared from bovine dermis-derived atelocollagen, (collagen prepared by solubilizing dermis using proteolytic enzyme, subsequently removing major antigenic sites). After clinical-grade purification, atelocollagen is processed into cotton-type or sheet-type material which is chemically bounded by a polyepoxy compound. In contrast to previous collagen-derived hemostats, which contained other proteins such as albumin, this product contains no bovine protein other than collagen. In addition, EMISTAT™ is more easily handled as adhesion or scattering of the product to forceps and gloves due to static electricity has been reduced.
